About the Wine

“Sancerre is home to some of France's tangiest, most thirst-quenching white wines, made from Sauvignon Blanc.” ~Wine Spectator.

Sancerre is an appellation located in the eastern part of the Loire Valley. This appellation produces red and rosé, but it’s undoubtedly the white Sancerre the flagship style of the whole region. Decanter said, “Sancerre is today a Sauvignon Blanc stronghold in France's Loire Valley, known for delicious dry white wines with beautiful texture and refreshing acidity.”

Château de Thauvenay’s story started almost 250 years ago when Pierre Perrinet started the construction of the emblematic castle, which remains still to this day. However, it was until 1819, that the vines arrived at this place thanks to Count of Montalivet, who served as Defense Minister under Napoléon.

This estate has been producing wine for more than 200 years ago, but it was in 1966 that this winery took a 180-degree turn, when Count Georges de Choulot, (Count of Montalivet’s great-grandson) took control of the winery and significantly improved the quality of the wines, winemaking, and sales department. Today, this renowned Château is owned by Cremant producer, Maison Langlois.

The amazing vineyard, which is managed under sustainable practices, is placed on rocky and chalk soils. The result is amazingly fresh, fun, and unique wines!

2020 is looking to be a very good vintage for Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire Valley. Wine Spectator gave this year a 90-point review, stating that: “2020 saw a very good growing season. Sauvignon Blanc shows good precision.”

Tasting Notes: 100% Sauvignon Blanc. This wine boasts a bright, pale yellow color with lovely light green reflections. The nose is open and intense, with aromas of citrus and exotic fruits. Lots of roundness coats the mouth, where we find the delicate nose leads to a delightful mineral finish. This wine pairs lovely with goat cheeses, creamy Brie, triple crème, cheeses, ricotta, feta, and Parmigiano-Reggiano.
