About the Wine
This 2020 Brunello is a rare find—and it’s not available anywhere else in the USA.
A 95-point Brunello, from one of the smallest estates in Montalcino, at a price under $70? That’s unheard of. For a wine of this caliber, most would expect to pay much more. But thanks to our exclusive allocation from San Carlo, you have the chance to grab a case of world-class Brunello without breaking the bank. This is an opportunity you won’t want to miss.
Crafted by Giancarlo and Gemma Marcucci, this wine is the pinnacle of Montalcino winemaking, a region renowned for producing some of the best wines in the world. The San Carlo estate, founded in the 1960s by Fulvio Marcucci and Renata Machetti, is a small but mighty powerhouse nestled on the southwest side of Montalcino, where the terrain and climate combine to create one of the most unique terroirs in the world. They began with 13 hectares of land, previously filled with grain crops and woods, and transformed it into the vineyard and olive grove haven that now produces wines recognized for their elegance and power.
The estate’s terroir is special, too: the vineyard sits at 1,200 feet above sea level, surrounded by 20 acres of wild forest, with soils rich in sand, limestone, and clay. The proximity to the sea and the surrounding hills create a protected microclimate that helps the Sangiovese thrive. This wine is a true reflection of that rare terroir—and the Marcucci family’s unwavering commitment to quality.
The family-run operation, still in its third generation, continues to prioritize hands-on, traditional methods. Giancarlo and Gemma now manage everything themselves—every step of the winemaking process is meticulously overseen, from the hand-harvested Sangiovese grapes to the native yeast fermentation and aging in large Slavonian oak casks. The result? A Brunello that’s pure, structured, and deeply soulful—a wine with decades of legacy behind it, crafted for a new generation of wine lovers.
This 2020 vintage is the culmination of decades of tradition, soil, and pure craftsmanship—and now it’s yours for the taking. Don’t sleep on this one. Wines of this quality don’t come around every day, and certainly not at this price. If you’re a true wine lover, you know the deal: Don’t wait, or you’ll miss it.
Wine Spectator once said, "If you want to understand what great Italian wine is all about, buy a bottle of Brunello. No wine in Italy matches Tuscany's Brunello di Montalcino when it comes to class and age-ability." We agree—wholeheartedly.
Aging: 3 years in large Slavonian oak barrels and at least 6 months in the bottle.
Tasting Notes
100% Sangiovese Grosso. Aromas of small red fruits, summer berry, autumn leaves, blond tobacco, spice. Structured yet suave, fine-grained tannins.
Critical Reviews
Jeweled red/ruby-colored, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is pure and ripe with aromas of kirsch, sweet flowers, lavender, crushed rosemary, and a hint of trufflly earth. Plush and medium to full-bodied, it's elegant and supple, with ripe tannins, a velvety texture, and lovely freshness. It's pure class, with hints of more savory rich porcini on the finish, and it's going to drink well over the coming 10-12 years. ~95 Jeb Dunnuck
The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is youthfully coy in the glass, but swirling unlocks depths of complexity. Dried black cherries and roses are complicated by crushed rocks, spiced orange peels and leather strips. This is soothingly round and supple, displaying ripe red and black fruit aromas that saturate the palate in youthful tension. A tinge of sour citrus combines with a salty flourish as silken tannins resonate under a bitter hint of ground clove through the long and dramatic finale. ~94 Vinous Media
