About The Wine

The only Barolo made from the Boschetti cru — and it always will be. One hill, one producer, one bottle. Sergio Gomba is the sole grower legally permitted to vinify Barolo under the Boschetti name, rising directly above the village of Barolo with the Falletti Castle standing watch over the vines.

Named single-vineyard Barolo doesn't come cheap. Cru bottlings from Cannubi, Monvigliero, Ravera, and Bussia typically start around $60 and climb well past $100 — and those vineyards split their fruit across a dozen or more competing producers. Boschetti has exactly one. That kind of exclusivity usually costs more. Here, it's under $50 — below the entry floor for the entire single-cru category.

The Gomba family has held this hill for generations. Sergio spent more than three decades rebuilding the estate into 28 hectares, 18 of them planted to Nebbiolo, on land that was once simply inherited and is now one of the most serious addresses in the Langhe. The 2021 vintage gave Nebbiolo real structure without sacrificing its perfume — this bottling is 100% Nebbiolo, DOCG Barolo, from a vineyard no one else can bottle under this name.

Cascina Boschetti has belonged to the Gomba family for generations, but it was Sergio Gomba who turned inheritance into legacy. He took over the estate in 1991 with a single vineyard in production and a hill full of potential, planting Nebbiolo the following year and slowly building the property parcel by parcel — 11 hectares by 1998, 28 today, 18 of them dedicated to the Boschetti cru itself. He built a new winery and bottling facility in the early 2000s, and in the years since has opened the estate to visitors, welcoming guests into small apartments overlooking the very vines that carry the family name. Through it all, Sergio has remained both owner and winemaker — a hands-on presence in a region increasingly defined by négociants and outside investment. More than three decades of quiet, deliberate work sit behind every bottle of Boschetti: proof that some of Barolo's rarest wines still come from families who never left the hill.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

A super-youthful Barolo with fresh violets, blood oranges, licorice and red cherries on the nose. Dense and full-bodied, it shows firm, dusty tannins with a ripe texture, muscular and refreshing acidity, and a long finish. ~93 James Suckling

THE PRODUCER

Boschetti Gomba

The Nebbiolo vineyards of the Boschetti hill belong to the Gomba family for many years. Sergio Gomba spent the last 30 years cultivating a dream: the rebirth of Cascina Boschetti, just above the village of Barolo. Sergio Gomba's work turned the house and the vineyards into a beautiful estate in one of the most enchanting locations in the heart of the Barolo DOCG. Cascina Boschetti is located on the top of the Boschetti hill which rises directly above the roofs of the Barolo village. Located in the heart of the Langhe area. The estate is situated on the famous Boschetti hill, which rises directly above the village of Barolo. Sergio Gomba was born March 14, 1944 in a farmers family. Sergio bought a farm in Montlupo Albese with vineyards and hazelnuts in 1977. Sergio bought a damaged farmhouse in Barolo in summer 1991 and harvested from one vineyard in autumn 1991.
