When it comes to high-quality Cab Franc, the Saumur-Champigny region is at the top of its game. Saumur-Champigny is a red wine appellation of Saumur in central Loire, that’s gotten a lot of notoriety in recent years thanks to its high-quality reds made up of Cabernet Franc. The wines from this region are fresh and unique, characterized by crisp acidity and berry fruit flavors.

Domaine des Closiers is a boutique and artisanal winery located in Parnay, right in the heart of this appellation. The estate covers over 37 acres of vineyards where 35-year-old vines thrive on a clay-limestone terroir. 

French businessman, Anatole de la Brosse acquired the estate in 2018 and immediately set out to capture the estate’s potential. Since then, he has achieved many positive changes, including the implementation of sustainable viticulture, and an HVE3 certification in 2017.

Anatole brought some of the greatest winemakers in France to the team. He enlisted Michel Chevre from Clos de l’Ecotard to consult on bio-conversion, and Nady Foucault former Clos Rougeard winemaker to consult.

Les Closiers represents the different terroirs of the estate. It comes from some of the best Cab Francs vineyards located on the hillsides of Parnay.  Anatole says this wine perfectly portrays Saumur Champigny terroir, “without any artifice, giving a fruity and gourmet wine.”

Aging: 8 to 10 months of aging in vats.

Tasting Notes: 100% Cabernet Franc. Aromas of red and black fruits, notes of mint and green peppers, a hint of licorice. Fine tannins, seductive texture. Beautiful elegance and purity. This wine is for foodies, pair it with roast beef, pizza, grilled burgers, or a platter of cheeses and cold cuts. It's also the perfect wine to drink by itself!
