Marqués de Riscal is one of Rioja's founding houses, established in 1858 in Elciego, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. Regarded as a pioneer of the region — the first to introduce Bordeaux-style aging techniques to Rioja — the estate has spent over 165 years balancing tradition with innovation, a legacy recognized in 2011 when Drinks International named it one of the ten most admired wine brands in the world.

Tapias takes its name from Finca Las Tapias, one of Marqués de Riscal's most prized parcels, planted back in 1968. This 2.85-hectare plot within the estate's 15-hectare vineyard is defined by a distinctive terroir of iron-rich clay and limestone soils, and it is farmed for maximum genetic diversity through massal selection. The resulting 100% Tempranillo wine is crafted with a nod to the Bordelaise methods the house used in its earliest vintages, and it is fittingly sold through La Place de Bordeaux — the same historic trading system Marqués de Riscal used to market its wines more than a century ago, marking a symbolic return to its roots.

Beyond Tapias itself, Marqués de Riscal's estate is a destination in its own right, home to the Frank Gehry-designed Hotel Marqués de Riscal and consistently ranked among the World's 50 Best Vineyards, cementing its status as one of the most storied and forward-looking producers in Spain.
