Founder Clay Shannon, a true maverick, embarked on a journey in 1996 that would redefine winemaking. His determination to cultivate exceptional fruit in harmony with nature led to the creation of the Shannon Family of Wines. With over 2,000 acres of breathtaking mountain property, where over 1,000 are planted with vines, the Shannon Family of Wines stands as a testament to commitment and creativity.

At Shannon Family of Wines, the commitment to the environment isn't just a phase, it's a lifestyle that’s impregnated into every aspect of the family’s operations. The accolades, including the California Green Medal Environment Award, stand as proof of their unwavering dedication. The winery is Sustainable Certified, and they’re on their way to becoming one of the largest Certified Organic mountain-grown vineyards in the U.S

The Giannecchini vineyard in Mendocino County is a testament to four generations of dedication. Planted between 1910 and 1920, these old vines have witnessed history and contributed to the creation of wines that are nothing short of magical. The combination of ancient vines, gravelly loam soils, and a prime location gives birth to wine grapes that carry the essence of the land itself, an ode to Italian heritage.

In 2021, we experienced mild spring weather and early blooms, followed by a heatwave from May to July. Despite the drought, our sheep helped retain soil moisture, resulting in an early harvest from August 12th to October 20th, producing small but highly concentrated berries. This vintage promises exceptional depth and intensity.

Tasting Notes

90% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah

This head-pruned, dry-farmed old vine Zinfandel is bold and expressive, showcasing dense dark fruit aromas, delicate floral notes, and a terroir-driven character. On the palate, it delivers spicy plum and rich cherry flavors with a long, lingering finish.
