About The Wine

This is it. We found our best value Bordeaux of the year. This is the wine you want to drink any day of the week or share with your friends on a special occasion. Amazing quality at an even more amazing price. This is our Valentine. A Bordeaux little gem that you won't find anywhere else.

Dominique Raimond, also known as the “man who makes Malbec sing”, is the proud owner and winemaker of Château Montfollet. This outstanding family-owned artisanal winery is located in the heart of Blaye and Cotes de Bourg appellations. Two of the greatest value Bordeaux wine regions. The vineyards are placed in an outstanding terroir on the slopes of red clay and limestone, overlooking the Gironde estuary, just in front of the prestigious Grands Crus de Margaux. The 148-acre vineyards are managed under sustainable practices and were recently certified with HEV Level 3.

Dominique, born and raised in Bordeaux, comes from a legendary family of vignerons. He’s an emblematic and very well-known winemaker in the region, and president of Châteaux Solidaires, a cooperative founded in 1937, that includes 10 properties in Côtes de Bordeaux, whose main purpose is to transmit the magic of this region to all consumers. The wines from Montfollet are carefully vinified at Châteaux Solidaires, where the winemaking area and cellar are equipped with top-notch and innovative technology, in order to produce extremely high-quality wines.

Little by little, the family name Raimond has gained a recognized position in Bordeaux’s wine industry, and today, his wines from Château Montfollet and Puy d’Amour have achieved global recognition and high accolades among some of the most important wine critics in the world.

Aging: 12 months in French oak, new and 1st used barrels.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

~94 Decanter World Wine Awards

Lively and fresh, you get some spiced notes and a touch of chewines which gives this a certain amount of enjoyable density. Fels well made, sleek and enjoyable with plenty of flavour. Feels a bit young and tight still, a little focussed, but there's good detail on show. There's also power underneath, this isn't a light wine but it's got grip and drinkability. A little grainy, but give this a couple of years it'll be good. ~ 90 Decanter

A smoky wine with juicy acidity and bright black fruits. Its tannins are cushioned with the ripe fruit flavors and spice. The wine is rich and dense, and the acidity does need to soften. Drink from 2026. ~ 90 Wine Enthusiast

Notes of ripe cherries and blackberries with hints of walnuts and cedar, following through to a medium body with fine, polished tannins. Fresh and juicy with a dry, crunchy aftertaste. Drink or hold. ~ 90 James Suckling

THE PRODUCER

Chateau Montfollet

Château Montfollet is one of the standout estates of the Blayais, a 67-hectare family property whose vineyards sit on argilo-calcaire and argilo-graveleux slopes overlooking the Gironde estuary — directly opposite the Margaux appellation on the Left Bank.

In the Raimond family for three generations, the estate has been led since 1991 by Dominique Raimond, president of Châteaux Solidaires, a collective of ten Blayais producers that traces its roots to a cooperative founded in 1937.

The model is distinctive: member châteaux share winemaking facilities and commercial infrastructure while each producer retains full independence over their own vineyards and cuvées — preserving individual terroir identity while accessing high-level technology. Under Raimond's direction, Montfollet has earned a reputation as one of the flagship properties of the appellation, consistently drawing recognition from the Hachette Guide and international competition circuits.
