About the Wine

2022 was an exceptional vintage, marked by a small harvest and beautifully healthy grapes thanks to a dry, harmonious growing season that delivered wines with remarkable concentration and structure.

This commitment to excellence aligns perfectly with Errázuriz’s philosophy. The estate strives to craft the finest wines by controlling every stage of production—from meticulous grape growing in the Aconcagua, Casablanca, and Curicó valleys to gentle, natural winemaking practices. With an emphasis on precision and delicacy, Errázuriz consistently produces wines of elegance, depth, and complexity. This dynamism and passion have cemented its reputation as one of the most respected producers in the world.

The story began in 1870, when Don Maximiano Errázuriz founded the estate in the foothills of Mount Aconcagua. Recognizing the valley’s potential—its hot, dry summers balanced by cooling Pacific breezes—he imported elite French clones and transformed a barren landscape into a world-class vineyard. Today, that pioneering spirit lives on under the leadership of his descendant, Eduardo Chadwick, who continues to elevate the estate’s global prestige.

Among Errázuriz’s standout creations is the 2022 Chardonnay Aconcagua Costa (formerly Wild Ferment Chardonnay), widely regarded as one of South America’s greatest white wines.

The winery ferments its finest Chardonnay lots using native yeasts, a slower process that allows the yeast populations to build naturally and produce unique flavor compounds—resulting in a wine of striking complexity, texture, and character.

Tasting Notes

100% Chardonnay.

Bright, crystal-clear straw-yellow wine with silvery highlights.

The nose is elegant, opening with citrus notes followed by hints reminiscent of marzipan, wafer dough, and white flowers. On the palate, it reveals mandarin-like citrus fruit, pastry notes, dried nuts, and orange blossom. It offers a sharp, tense mouthfeel with excellent persistence, texture, and concentration.

Critic Reviews

Astonishing purity and youthful freshness, the white-peach, Asian-pear and candied Amalfi-lemon aromas incredibly vivid. Super-focused, medium-bodied palate with staggering vitality and energy. This is very concentrated, but the refreshing acidity makes it feel so light on its feet. Then comes the diamond-bright minerality at the finish. Surely the best white wine from this producer to date! Made from vines planted in 2005. Drink or hold. 20th Anniversary Berlin Tasting Event, February 2024. ~ 98 James Suckling

Las Pizarras began production thanks to the 2014 vintage and immediately underscored the potential of the vineyards in Aconcagua Costa. This version, like all those that came before it, comes from three parcels rich in slate soils, about 11 kilometers from the sea, on the western side of the Aconcagua Valley. 100% of the wine was aged in 400-liter barrels, 20% of them new oak. This is a very good version, always focused on the acidity and the herbal and citrus flavors caused by the cold influence of the sea. But in this case—perhaps unlike the 2021 vintage—the wine seems more present on the palate. It's broader, more succulent, and it occupies more of the mouth. A dense wine, delicious in its juiciness, one of the great Chilean whites. ~ 97 Descorchados

The 2022 Las Pizarras Chardonnay is enticingly pure and vibrant on the nose, exuding a pleasing combination of bright, floral and crushed stone aromas with incredible clarity. The palate is a livewire of energy, with a radiant, beaming presence and outstanding, chiseled precision. It concludes on a long, layered and stoney finish accented with bright citrus notes and impressive length. This grew ever more nuanced and multidimensional in the glass, gaining substantial textural breadth but never losing sight of its crystalline purity and focused core. This was 100% barrel fermented, underwent partial malolactic fermentation and aged 12 months in 20% new French barrique. ~ 96 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate

A superb Chardonnay from Chile, combines a rich texture with a tight stone fruit core, juicy white peach and pear set against sage spice, gunsmoke and white flower aromatics, love it. Natural yeast fermentation, aged in French oak barrels. Brilliant stuff from owner Eduardo Chadwick and winemaker Tomas Munoz. ~ 96, Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
