About The Wine

When it comes to Burgundy, especially the charming village of Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is the name everyone knows. This estate has been nurturing the region’s finest vineyards for 20 generations (over 550 years). Owning the majority of the revered Musigny vineyard, de Vogüé isn’t just making wine—they’re crafting a legacy.

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé doesn’t just grow grapes—they nurture them. They use organic principles in their vineyards, letting nature take the lead. Horses plow the fields, and herbs are planted between rows to keep pests in check naturally. Winemaker François Millet believes in letting each vintage speak for itself, with minimal intervention. The result? A wine that’s pure, unfined, unfiltered, and brimming with character.

Musigny is one of the two Grand Crus of Chambolle-Musigny, and this is the domaine's old-vine bottling from it. In 2023 the wine was assembled from seven separate lots across the vineyard, each one vinified and tasted on its own before the final blend came together.

In the glass, the 2023 is cool and tightly wound. Blackberry, raspberry and dark cherry lead, followed by orange zest, rose petal, iris and a line of crushed stone. The tannins are ultra-refined, the core of fruit is rich, and the finish is long and fragrant. It is young now and has a long road ahead. This is a bottle for someone who already knows what Musigny can do.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

I tasted the 2023 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru both as components from the seven different cuvées that make the final blend and as an approximation of the final blend itself. This has exquisite delineation on the nose: blackberry, raspberry, crushed stone and touches of undergrowth—very harmonious. The palate is medium-bodied, tightly wound and linear, with a sense of symmetry on the entry. But of all the Musigny tasted from barrel in 2023, this has perhaps the most nascent freshness, tension and complexity on the finish. A sense of completeness. Outstanding. ~99 Vinous Media

The 2023 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru, which we tasted from a variety of sub-parcels, is very promising, mingling aromas of dark berries and cherries with notions of orange zest, rose petals, incense and iris. Medium to full-bodied, cool and layered, with a rich core of fruit framed by ultra-refined tannins, it's suave and harmonious, with a long, fragrant finish. This accomplished Musigny only confirms that de Vogüé is performing on a high level today. ~96 Wine Advocate
