About The Wine

There is no other wine in the world like Yquem. The sole Premier Cru Supérieur of the 1855 Sauternes classification, the château picks its botrytized Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc berry by berry across multiple passes through the vineyard — and in lesser years, it famously declares no wine at all. What reaches the bottle is the most exalted sweet wine on earth, capable of aging for a century.

The 2023 is a landmark release. The château itself calls the vintage 'Apotheosis' — the peak of its 2021–2023 trilogy — saying it combines the crystalline freshness of 2021 with the sun-powered dynamism of 2022. A blend of 70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc, harvested in four passes between September 14 and October 11, it carries 153 g/L of residual sugar balanced by vivid acidity.

The critics agree: 100 points from Wine Advocate, 100 from James Suckling, 99 from Vinous, and 99 from Jeff Leve, who projects a drinking window stretching to 2100. This is a once-a-decade Yquem — a bottle to be born into a cellar and passed down.

Pure and concentrated on the nose: roasted rhubarb, lilac blossom and citrus, with a dash of cedar and beeswax. Velvety and expansive on the palate, with an almond-laced texture; apricot, dark plum and mandarin orange marmalade build to a long, indulgent finish.
