About The Wine

Chateau Suduiraut is one of the great historic vineyards of Sauternes, classified Premier Cru Classe in 1855. The estate's history dates back to 1580, when Leonard de Suduiraut married Nicole d'Allard and received the land as dowry. Count Blaise de Suduiraut completely renovated the property at the end of the 17th century, establishing the foundation for centuries of winemaking excellence.

Lions de Suduiraut Blanc Sec is the estate's entry-level dry white, launched in 2011 to reach younger customers and redesigned as a Bordeaux Blanc starting with the 2021 vintage. It's produced from a specific plot within the Chateau Suduiraut vineyard planted with 20-year-old Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Sauvignon Gris vines. The wine is designed for immediate pleasure — meant to be savored in its youth.

The 2023 vintage saw a mild, dry winter followed by sustained heat and summer heatwaves that caused water stress. Late July and early August storms provided crucial water for grape development and preserved acidity. Harvest ran from August 18 to 27, yielding fruit with enhanced intensity and power. The blend — 57% Semillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc, 13% Sauvignon Gris — was vinified 70% in temperature-controlled stainless steel and 30% in barrels, then aged six months on fine lees with regular stirring.

Pale yellow in the glass, with an open nose of white flowers and citrus that evolves toward passion fruit and a mineral edge. The attack is round and fresh, the mid-palate revealing pink grapefruit, pear, and toasted hazelnut. The finish is persistent and saline, echoing hazelnut and pear. This is white Bordeaux that drinks well above its price — the kind of fruit depth and texture you'd expect from bottles twice the cost.
