About The Wine

The Domaine Gros dates to the early 1800s — one of Burgundy's founding families. When Jean Gros retired in the early 1990s, the estate was split among four heirs; Michel inherited the walled 1er Cru monopole Clos des Reas and other parcels across Vosne-Romanee. Forty years of winemaking later, he farms 18 hectares across one of the Cote d'Or's most prestigious villages, balancing innovation with tradition to craft wines of terroir, history, and elegant power.

Vosne-Romanee is Pinot Noir's most revered address — the village that gave us Romanee-Conti. The terroir here is a study in restraint and depth: red limestone soils, cool east-facing slopes, a balance of fruit and structure that ages gracefully for decades. Michel's style emphasizes ripe, supple fruit and no hard tannins — wines that show the village's silky power without the grip.

The wine itself is medium-bodied and pliant, with red and black fruit folding into violets and a whisper of licorice. The tannins are soft, the structure tensile and well-balanced. It's the kind of Pinot that reminds you why Burgundy matters — elegant, layered, and built to cellar or drink tonight with an hour in the decanter.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

"The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Village has quite a potent nose of incense and crushed violets that bursts from the glass. Cohesive and poised, this has a medium-bodied palate, pliant tannins and abundant fleshy red fruit on the finish. This is the most promising of the Domaine's Village Crus at the moment." ~90 Vinous Media

THE PRODUCER

Domaine Michel Gros

The Domaine Gros dates to the early 1800s. After Jean Gros retired in the early 1990s, the domaine was split into 4 estates. Michel Gros inherited the Monopole 1er Cru vineyard 'Clos Reas' and other parcels. Michel has been steadily acquiring other vineyards and today farms around 18 hectares in Vosne-Romanée and surrounding villages. Michel Gros has 40 years of experience as a winemaker. Domaine Michel Gros is located in Vosne-Romanée, one of the most prestigious villages on the Côte d'Or. The domaine has been the sole owner of the Vosne-Romanée premier cru Clos des Réas for the past century and a half. Michel's father, Jean Gros, bought close to 1000 parcels of land in the Hautes-Côtes over five years, then spent another five years regrouping them.
