2023 Famille Vervier Mâcon-Villages

Mâcon-Villages is the smartest entry point to white Burgundy — and this one is made by a family that's been growing Chardonnay on these exact hillsides for four generations. Famille Vervier farms 15 hectares in Solutré-Pouilly, one of the four communes that anchors the prestigious Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. The Pouilly-Fuissé label on a bottle commands a significant premium. This is the same limestone and clay terroir, from the same village, at a fraction of the cost.

Cindy and Jérémy Vervier became independent winemakers in 2016, continuing a family lineage rooted in this stretch of southern Burgundy. The estate holds France's High Environmental Value (HVE) certification — a rigorously audited sustainability standard tied to biodiversity, water management, and responsible viticulture. They've even installed beehives among the vineyards. This is a family that takes their land seriously.

The 2023 vintage was warm and generous across the Mâconnais — grapes harvested at ideal ripeness, expressive and fruit-forward. The winemaking stays out of the way: stainless steel aging on fine lees, no oak, nothing added that would mask the wine's natural character. What you get is pure, precise Chardonnay from one of Burgundy's most historically significant wine villages.
