About The Wine

Philippe Melka and Matt Sands don't chase fruit — they chase the vineyards that matter. Melka, the 100-point Bordeaux-trained architect behind some of Napa's most celebrated wines, started at Château Haut-Brion. Sands honed his craft at Screaming Eagle and a string of New Zealand's most exacting estates. Together, they source from the highest-caliber sites in Northern California, and Heintz Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast is one of them.

The Sonoma Coast isn't a single place — it's a cold, fog-draped band where the Pacific dictates the growing season. Heintz Vineyard sits in that maritime zone, where temperatures stay cool and the fruit holds natural acidity and tension. For Chardonnay, this geography produces something structurally different from warmer inland sites: tighter, more mineral-driven, with the kind of spine that keeps the wine lively instead of soft.

Melka and Sands fermented this in neutral oak, letting the vineyard speak without burying it in butter and toast. The result is Chardonnay with clarity and structure — ripe golden apple, white peach, Meyer lemon, toasted hazelnuts, and a wisp of vanilla on the nose. The palate shows orchard fruit and citrus zest backed by subtle creaminess, unfolding into honeyed pear, crème brûlée, and a touch of flint. Bright acidity, seductive texture, long finish.

This is Sonoma Coast Chardonnay made by two of California's most exacting winemakers, from a vineyard that delivers the goods. Pull the cork now or cellar it — the structure will carry it.
