About The Wine

"Baby Barolo" is usually marketing. Here it's just accurate.

Think of this as the fastest way to taste what makes Serralunga d'Alba's Nebbiolo so special, without the years of waiting a real Barolo demands. Langhe Nebbiolo is made from the same grape, grown on the same hillsides, by the same family — the Boassos — who also farm plots in Gabutti and Lazzarito, crus so prized that cult producer Cappellano and the legendary house of Vietti build their own flagship wines around them. This bottling just gets released young, so you can drink it now.

The Boasso family has worked this ground since the 1950s, when Giuseppe came home from World War II to a traditional Piedmontese farm growing vines, hazelnuts, and a bit of everything a family needed. His son Franco expanded the estate through the 1970s and 80s, and the family began bottling their own wine in the mid-1980s. Today it's Franco alongside his sons Ezio, who runs the vineyards and cellar, and Claudio, who handles tastings — a small, hands-on operation producing around 40,000 bottles a year in total, still using traditional long macerations rather than the shortcuts many bigger producers have taken.

Nebbiolo is a notoriously difficult, thin-skinned grape that only shows its best in a handful of places on earth, and Serralunga d'Alba — home to Italy's most mythic wine — is one of the very best. Barolo law requires Nebbiolo destined for that label to age a minimum of 38 months before release. Langhe Nebbiolo skips that wait entirely, letting the Boasso family bottle their Nebbiolo fruit young and fresh — same vineyards, same hands, same limestone-rich terroir, just an entirely different, more immediate personality.

For anyone curious about what Barolo actually tastes like before they commit to a $70+ bottle and years of cellar patience, this is the honest, accessible answer — grown by a family whose real specialty is the wine this grape eventually becomes.

100% Nebbiolo. Lighter and brighter than its Barolo siblings, this Langhe Nebbiolo pours a vivid ruby red and opens with fresh red cherry, wild strawberry, and rose petal, backed by the same signature dried-herb and mineral note that runs through all of Serralunga's Nebbiolo. On the palate it's medium-bodied with fine, approachable tannins, brisk acidity, and a clean, savory finish — Nebbiolo's real character, just without the decades of patience a Barolo demands. Pour it with roast chicken, salumi, mushroom risotto, or really any weeknight dinner that could use a little Piedmontese lift.

THE PRODUCER

Boasso

Franco Boasso has quietly become one of Serralunga d'Alba's most reliable producers — traditional pricing, no hype, just serious Barolo from some of the commune's best-regarded vineyards. The family farms plots in Gabutti, Margheria, and Lazzarito, among others, and keeps the operation small and focused.
