About The Wine

If you love Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio but want something with more personality, Albariño is where you land. It's got all the crisp, refreshing energy you expect from a great warm-weather white, but with a layer of stone fruit richness and a saline finish that makes it one of the most naturally food-friendly grapes on the planet — think oysters, shrimp tacos, ceviche, or just a glass on the patio with nothing else needed.

Rías Baixas, on Spain's lush Atlantic coast, is where the best Albariño comes from, and over the past decade the region has gone from insider secret to global phenomenon. What most people don't realize is that it's actually five distinct sub-zones, each producing Albariño with a completely different personality.
Peitan comes from Condado do Tea, the most inland and southernmost of those sub-zones. Where the famous coastal vineyards of Val do Salnés deliver razor-sharp acidity and cutting minerality, Condado do Tea is prized for something else entirely: rich, generous palate texture. Don't mistake that for softness — even the roundest wines from this zone carry more total acidity than most Premier Cru Chablis.

The estate behind this wine, Viña Nora, farms 16 hectares of vines averaging 25 years old, planted on natural terraces that tumble toward the gorges of the Miño River. The soils are a mix of alluvial gravel and decomposed granite — those rounded stones act as heat regulators, holding daytime warmth to balance nighttime humidity and push the grapes toward full ripeness. Every harvest is done entirely by hand due to the steep terrain, and the wine spends extended time on its lees without centrifuging, building the creamy mid-palate weight that sets it apart from typical entry-level Albariño.

The 2024 Peitan opens with a rush of orange blossom, lemon peel, and white peach — floral and immediately inviting. The palate delivers on the promise of the Condado do Tea sub-zone: broader and gently richer than the coastal style, with a creamy texture that glides across the tongue. There's sliced apple and salted pineapple through the mid-palate, balanced by crisp, well-integrated freshness that keeps everything lively. This is an expressive, food-friendly white built to drink now while the fruit is at its most direct and aromatic.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

The 2024 Albariño Peitán comes from Rías Baixas. In a floral, direct style… aromas of orange blossom, lemon peel and white peach. Broad and gently rich, with well-balanced freshness, offering a simple yet expressive profile typical of the Miño area. A flavorful white best enjoyed young. ~90 Tim Atkin, Master of Wine
