About the Wine

Sancerre is the benchmark for Sauvignon Blanc around the world.

“Sancerre is home to some of France's tangiest, most thirst-quenching white wines, made from Sauvignon Blanc.” ~Wine Spectator.

Sancerre is an appellation located in the eastern part of the Loire Valley, west of Paris. This appellation produces red and rosé, but it’s undoubtedly the white Sancerre that is the flagship wine of the whole region. As Decanter magazine wrote, “Sancerre is today a Sauvignon Blanc stronghold in France's Loire Valley, known for delicious dry white wines with beautiful texture and refreshing acidity.”

This small appellation on the eastern edge of the Loire Valley produces Sauvignon Blanc unlike anywhere else in the world — tightly wound, mineral-driven, and defined by the flint and limestone soils that the vines have spent centuries learning to translate into the glass.

Comte de la Chevalière is the appellation's leading cooperative, founded in 1963 and now representing over 90 growers farming 250 hectares across Sancerre's most coveted hillside terroirs — stony slopes that rise above the Loire River and catch the sun in ways that concentrate both flavor and minerality.

The scale gives this wine something rare: consistent access to fruit from across the entire appellation, blended with the expertise of a house that ships nearly 2 million bottles a year to wine lovers around the world.

This isn't a boutique rarity, but it delivers the kind of precision and typicity that Sancerre is celebrated for — at a fraction of the price!

Tasting Notes

100% Sauvignon Blanc.

It opens with fresh, springy aromas of crisp green apple and crushed shell, with bright lemon rind and a clean mineral thread.

On the palate, citrus-spritzed green pear takes center stage, framed by snappy, lively acidity.

The finish is clean and precise with a characteristic Sancerre zip. Drink now through 2030 with oysters, crab cake, roasted chicken, or fresh goat cheese.

Critical Reviews

This wine is fresh and springy. Crisp green apple and crushed-shell aromas billow from the glass along with lemon rind. Citrus-spritzed green pear opens the palate that is buttressed by snappy acidity that pops in the glass. ~ 92 Wine Enthusiast

Airy aromas of dried white flowers, sea salt, mandarin pith, and a note of salted lemon wedge. The palate is a touch austere, as a crushed chalk mouthfeel frames salty lemons, smoky flint and a ripe macerated nectarine note. Drinking Window: 2025–2030. ~ 90 Decanter
