About The Wine

Seven Hills Winery pioneered the resurgence of Walla Walla viticulture in the 1970s and 1980s — turning a forgotten corner of Washington into one of the West's most respected wine regions. Their vineyards are the foundation; their track record is the proof.

This 2024 Merlot is built like a wine twice its price. The blend includes 12% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot, and 2% Malbec — the kind of complexity you expect from Napa bottles in the $40–$50 range, not a $21 Walla Walla workhorse.

Walla Walla Merlot thrives in warm days and cool nights, producing fruit with dark-cherry intensity and structure that keeps the wine honest. This one delivers medium-bodied weight with supple, velvety texture and silky tannins — dark cherry, baking spice, dark chocolate, with hints of flint and thyme cutting through the richness.

It's full-bodied and chewy without going heavy. Tasty layers of chocolate, cherries, hazelnuts, and olives, held together by ripe, broad tannins. Drinks well now; even better after 2024 if you can wait.

THE PRODUCER

Seven Hills

Seven Hills Winery pioneered a resurgence of Walla Walla's viticulture in the 1970s and 1980s. Built in 1904 as a woodworking mill. Now the Seven Hills Winery. Grgich Hills Estate was established in 1977. The winery is located in Rutherford, California in the Napa Valley. The winery changed its name in 2006 when it began producing only estate grown wines made from grapes grown exclusively in vineyards owned by the winery. The winery's vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic. The winery converted to solar energy in 2006.
