About The Wine

Every year there's more Provence rosé on the shelf, and every year it gets harder to tell which bottles are actually worth drinking. Decanter just made it easy. At the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards, nearly 17,000 wines from 57 countries, the 2025 Cuvée Marie-Christine was named Best in Show with 97 points. It was the only rosé among the 50 top wines of the entire competition.

Château de l'Aumérade sits on the plain of Pierrefeu-du-Var, in the heart of the Côtes de Provence. When Provence classified its top estates in 1955, l'Aumérade was named a Cru Classé, and today it's one of only 18 estates that still carry the title. The Fabre family has owned it for more than 95 years, and the fourth generation runs it now.

The cuvée is named for Marie-Christine, the Fabres' first daughter, and it comes in the curved bottle Charlotte Fabre designed in the 1950s after a vase by the glass artist Émile Gallé. The 2025 is the 70th vintage in that bottle.

It's a blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah from clay and limestone soils. The grapes are destemmed, pressed gently and fermented cool in stainless steel for about ten days. There's no oak and nothing else to get in the way of the fruit: redcurrant, wild strawberry, white peach and grapefruit, with a clean, stony finish.

We've poured a lot of Provence rosé. This is the one the judges picked over all of them, and it's priced like an everyday bottle. Bring it out with grilled shrimp, a salade niçoise, roast chicken or goat cheese.

Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah.

Pale pink. The nose opens with redcurrant, wild strawberry and pink grapefruit, then white peach, apricot, citrus peel and soft florals over a subtle mineral edge.

Dry and bright on the palate, with red berry, peach and grapefruit carried by crisp acidity and a silky texture. The finish is long, clean and lightly stony. Serve well chilled.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

Best in Show, and the only rosé among the 50 top wines of the 2026 competition out of nearly 17,000 entries. Exemplary, with peach and yellow plum, lively freshness, a creamy texture and a restrained herbal finish. ~ 97 Decanter World Wine Awards 2026

THE PRODUCER

Chateau L'Aumerade

Located in the heart of Provence, Château de l’Aumérade is a historic family-owned winery with over 400 years of winemaking heritage. Owned by the Fabre family since 1932, the estate is situated in Pierrefeu-du-Var, where clay-limestone soils and Mediterranean breezes create ideal conditions for producing elegant, fruit-driven wines. In 1955, the château earned the prestigious Cru Classé designation, a distinction awarded to just 18 estates in Provence. Best known for its Côtes de Provence rosés, particularly the iconic Cuvée Marie-Christine, Château de l’Aumérade combines generations of winemaking tradition with a commitment to expressing the character of its Provençal terroir.
