Pauillac is the spine of Bordeaux's Left Bank — gravel beds over limestone, Cabernet Sauvignon's ancestral home, the place that sets the standard for every other Cab-based wine on earth. Mouton-Rothschild has held First Growth status since 1973, the only estate ever promoted into that tier, and it remains the house that defined modern Bordeaux: power, precision, and the kind of ageability that makes a bottle relevant for half a century.

The 2025 is a futures offering — wine still in barrel, released before bottling, the way Bordeaux has always worked. You're buying provenance and time: the pedigree of the estate, the promise of the vintage, and the chance to own a First Growth at release pricing before the secondary market takes over. No score yet — just the name, the place, and the track record.

Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, as it does in every great Pauillac, backed by Merlot for structure and Cabernet Franc for lift. The wine will spend eighteen months in new French oak, then be bottled and released to those who reserved it. What you're tasting in ten years is being made right now.

This is the wine serious collectors pre-order and cellar. It's a trophy bottle, a vertical anchor, the kind of purchase that justifies itself in a decade when you pull the cork and the room goes quiet. First Growth Pauillac from one of the five estates that define the category — that's the whole argument.

Cabernet Sauvignon from Pauillac's gravel soils — expect cassis, graphite, and cedarwood structure, with the density and tannin grip that First Growth fruit delivers. This will need a decade minimum to start showing what it's built for.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

A glamorous wine for the vintage, with mesmerizing perfumes of flowers, al dente fruit, and citrus flowers. Black currants with some mineral and stone undertones. Medium- to full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and an endless finish. The tannins lead you on a great trip. It is the most Cabernet Sauvignon ever used in the blend in recent memory. Balanced and structured. 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot. ~ 99-100 James Suckling

A blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot, the 2025 Mouton Rothschild is a dense, powerful wine, unwinding in the glass with aromas of crème de cassis, blueberries, espresso roast, cigar wrapper and violet. Full-bodied, deep and dense, it's rich, layered and concentrated, with prodigious mid-palate presence and a long, youthfully structured finish. Small berries in Cabernet Sauvignon, below one gram even in the older vines, explain this Mouton's remarkable intensity of flavor. The grand vin represents 52% of the production and checks in at 13.1% alcohol. ~ 97-99 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Mouton Rothschild is dense and brooding. Although naturally very, very young, all the elements are so well put together. The 2025 is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon, the most Cabernet ever in the Grand Vin, and that very much comes through in the wine's structure and overall presence. Graphite, lavender, rose petal, and menthol build into the rich, heady finish. There's a ton of potential here. ~ 96-98 Vinous Media
