About The Wine

Founded in 1988, La Carraia remains family-owned across 1,960 hectares in the heart of Orvieto, where Eduardo Gialetti and his sons Mauro and Marco farm volcanic hillside vineyards at 300 meters above sea level. The winemaking is led by Riccardo Cotarella, recently awarded the Master of the Italian Wine Art medal by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni — one of Italy's most celebrated oenologists working with one of Umbria's most serious family estates.

This Orvieto Classico is a tribute to terroir treasured since Etruscan times: 60% Grechetto and 40% Procanico (Trebbiano) grown on volcanic tufa soils, sustainably farmed and fermented entirely in stainless steel with indigenous yeast. That winemaking choice preserves the naturally bright aromatics and vibrant fruit character the region is known for — crisp, mineral-driven whites that punch well above their price.

The 2025 vintage is linear on the nose, with elderberry and cedar, supported by a fresh acid vein that comes from the volcanic soils and the cool autumn fogs that keep temperatures down at night. Nectarine, green apple, and a touch of zesty lime leap from the glass, carrying through to a bright, refreshing finish. At 12.5% alcohol, it's the kind of Italian white that makes supermarket Pinot Grigio taste emotionally vacant.

This is $17 wine with the depth and structure of bottles that cost twice as much. A true Italian classic from a family farm in the heart of Umbria, made by one of the country's most decorated winemakers, and priced like we bought it direct. Because we did.
