About The Wine

Champagne Henriot was founded in 1808 by Apolline Henriot, a widow and vinegrower whose Grand Cru Pinot Noir holdings in Verzy, Verzenay, and Mailly-Champagne formed the House's original foundation. In 1880, the marriage of Paul Henriot to Marie Marguet brought three Chardonnay Grand Cru villages into the family — Chouilly, Avize, and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger — uniting the two greatest terroirs of Champagne under one name. These six founding Grand Crus remain the DNA of the House today.

Brut Souverain is the house's signature non-vintage cuvee — a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier drawn from those founding Grand Cru parcels, aged on lees to develop depth and texture. The high Chardonnay component delivers the precision and elegance Henriot is known for, while Pinot Noir adds red-berry weight and structure.

The nose shows sourdough, acacia, citrus peel, apricots, and honeycomb. The palate balances bright lemon and green apple acidity with red-berry depth and a creamy mousse, finishing long with toasted almond and frank minerality. Sharp, well-balanced, and harmonious — built for the table or the cellar.

95 points from James Suckling. This is grower Champagne from one of the region's oldest family houses, at a price that makes buying by the case the smart move.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

A superprecise, reductive style due to bright lime-peel aromas enhanced by chalky minerality with linden tree and yellow plums. Light-bodied, it has zesty acidity with pinprick bubbles, a tight-knit structure and a chewy yet very polished finish.~95 James Suckling

In 1880, Paul Henriot married Marie Marguet, a young vinegrower from a family owning Grands Crus in the Côte des Blancs, bringing three Chardonnay Grand Cru villages to the estate: Chouilly, Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
