The Herzog family's winemaking roots go back generations, and the Lineage series is the winery's estate-grown range, named for that heritage. Today the family makes its California wines at Herzog Wine Cellars in Oxnard.

The grapes for this bottling are carefully selected from vineyards in Clarksburg, a small appellation in the Sacramento River Delta where cool breezes off the water keep the fruit fresh through long, warm days. It's a place that quietly grows some of California's best-balanced white grapes.

In the glass it's full bodied and complex, with top notes of citrus and tropical fruit, a round texture and a dry, clean finish. It shows everything you want from California Chardonnay, and it's kosher.

Pour it with roast chicken, grilled salmon, creamy pasta or a cheese board, and keep a few bottles around for the holidays.
