About The Wine

The story of Krug Rosé begins in 1976, when the fifth generation of the Krug family chose to challenge convention. Guided by Joseph Krug’s original vision, that Champagne should never be constrained by category or expectation, the Maison set out to create a rosé unlike any other. Not a seasonal variation, but a fully realized expression of Krug’s art of blending, where elegance and substance exist in equal measure.

Each year, Maison Krug presents a new Édition of Krug Rosé, composed as a unique interpretation rather than a fixed recipe. Krug Rosé 28ème Édition is built around the 2016 harvest, a year defined by dramatic contrasts. An exceptionally wet spring tested the vineyards, followed by calmer conditions and a late-season heatwave that allowed the fruit to reach full expression. As Krug Cellar Master Julie Cavil explains:

"This Édition of Krug Rosé is composed around the harvest of 2016, a year of weather conditions so contrasting, they became a caricature of the climatic pendulum. An extremely wet spring, with +70% rainfall versus the norm between April and June, made vineyard work difficult and increased disease pressure. Clement weather ensued from flowering onwards, allowing the vineyard to recover, ending with a heatwave at the end of ripening. The marathon harvest took place from September 9 to October 2 yielding classic grapes in good health and wines all about expression and character, regardless of grape variety or origin."Julie Cavil, Krug Cellar Master

This Édition is a blend of 32 wines from six different years, the youngest from 2016 and the oldest dating back to 2010. Reserve wines from Krug’s extensive library account for 38% of the final composition, lending depth, nuance, and continuity. The blend is anchored by 58% Pinot Noir, including 10% traditionally macerated Pinot Noir red wines, which bring structure, spice, and quiet power. Chardonnay contributes freshness and lift, while Meunier adds roundness and generosity.

In the glass, Krug Rosé 28ème Édition reveals a subtle pale pink hue that signals restraint rather than exuberance. Aromatically, it unfolds with notes of rose hips, cured ham, mulberries, redcurrant, peony, pepper, and pink grapefruit. On the palate, the wine is precise and layered, offering delicate flavors of honey, citrus, and dried fruit, carried by fine, persistent bubbles. The finish is long and composed, balancing freshness with depth in a way that is unmistakably Krug.

This is collector-grade Champagne Rosé, shaped by time, intention, and one of the most exacting blending philosophies in the world. A wine that rewards contemplation as much as celebration, and one that reflects Krug’s belief that every Édition should stand on its own as a singular expression.

Krug's rosé Champagne was launched in 1983. This latest iteration is as dense, rich and opulent as ever. From its perfumed aroma to its ripe, full and generous red fruits and mature, tangy flavor, the wine is in perfect balance. Drink now. ~ 97 Wine Enthusiast

Beautiful peach-pink color with a copper hue and a lot of floral nuances on the nose, offering dried cherries, peach skin and spices. It shows intensity and power, yet with elegance and precision. Full-bodied with a fine texture and phenolic tension. Bright and already delicious with some zesty, dried orange peel character at the end. Drink or hold. ~ 97 James Suckling

Offering aromas of peonies, orange peel, cinnamon, dried herbs, rose petals and ripe red berries, the NV Rosé 28ème Edition possesses a medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated palate with a vinous, creamy core of fruit framed by a vibrant, enrobing mid-palate that leads into a nicely phenolic, long, salty and mineral finish. This rendition—a blend of 58% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 17% Pinot Meunier—is one of this house's most powerful and well-executed Champagne rosé ever produced. It comprises 32 wines from vintages spanning 2010 to 2016, with the latter as the base, and red wine sourced from Aÿ. ~ 97 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

A majestic rosé Champagne of impeccable balance, with remarkable depth of flavor and focus to its flavors of raspberry puree, kirsch and grilled nuts, plus hints of saffron, blood orange peel and ground coffee. The finely detailed mousse glides across the palate, enmeshed with chiseled acidity. The vibrant frame carries the profile on the long, long finish. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Disgorged winter 2022 to 2023 (Krug ID 123009). Drink now through 2034. ~ 96 Wine Spectator

What the Critics Said

THE PRODUCER

Krug

Krug Champagne was born from Joseph Krug’s radical 1843 vision: to create the finest Champagne every single year, regardless of vintage. Refusing to be defined by the whims of weather, he began meticulously collecting reserve wines—each a distinct voice in a larger symphony—so he could craft a cuvée of unwavering excellence.

Today, the House remains true to that founding promise, guided by the sixth generation of the Krug family. Every bottle is built like a masterpiece: long-aged, precision-driven, and composed from an extraordinary library of wines spanning multiple years. Krug is not just Champagne—it’s a philosophy of patience, depth, and craftsmanship, where each sip reveals layers of complexity and the unmistakable signature of a house that values individuality, harmony, and time above all else.
