About The Wine

Laurent-Perrier believes nature alone can't deliver perfection — that's a job for the cellarmaster. Since 1812, this house has backed that claim with a prestige cuvee built not from a single vintage, but from the best parcels of three. Grand Siecle N°27 is a deliberate blend of 2015 (65%), 2013 (25%), and 2012 (10%) — all three years chosen to deliver what no single harvest could: aromatic intensity, structural depth, and the acidity to age a decade or more.

The name Grand Siecle — Great Century — refers to 17th-century France, when human craft reached heights nature couldn't offer on its own. That philosophy plays out in the blend: 60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, all from eight Grands Crus. The 2015 fruit — extreme weather, late ripening, opulent Pinot — anchors the wine with richness. The 2013 component adds natural freshness and remarkable balance after a cold spring and intense summer. The 2012 vintage, elegant and fine despite frost damage, provides red fruit lift. Ten years on the lees built the weight; 7g/L dosage gives energy without heaviness.

In the glass, it's brilliant golden-yellow. The nose is intense: dried almonds, hazelnuts, toasted bread, deepening into honey and pine resin with bottle age. The palate is full-bodied but never heavy — orchard fruit, candied notes, a touch of honey and gingerbread, all balanced by refreshing acidity that keeps it lively through a long, persistent finish. James Suckling called it 99 points. Wine Enthusiast scored it 97. The scores are validation, not the reason — the reason is the decade of lees aging and the blueprint Laurent-Perrier has been refining since they created this cuvee.

This is my pick for the night you're celebrating something that took years to pull off — the kind of bottle that proves craft beats luck every time. Pull the cork now or hold it through the next decade; either way, it'll remind you why Champagne at this level isn't just sparkling wine, it's architecture.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

Impressively aromatic, showing honeysuckle, violets and lavender with bread dough and just a hint of light caramel as well as dried apples, cooked pears and tarte tatin. Reductive with graphite, stone and iodine. Some chalk too. Full-bodied but not at all heavy, turning almost weightless. Nine years on the lees and 7 g/L dosage give energy, length and form. Goes on for minutes. This will age beautifully but is already fascinating, evolving in the glass. Available in the US market in November. Drink or hold. ~99 James Suckling

Pouring a bright silver-yellow hue, the NV Champagne Grand Siècle Iteration No. 27 is very pretty on the nose, with notes of wet stone, delicate smokiness, apricot, and lavender. Medium-bodied, it’s long on the palate, with silky complexity and pillowy mousse, offering key lime, lemon meringue, green apples, and a salty spice. With its silky, long finish, it reveals a sunny but refined elegance and is a very pretty edition. The complementary vintages are a blend of 2015, 2013, and 2012, with 65% from 2015 and 10% from 2012. The blend is 60/40 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, sourced from Mesnil-sur-Oger. Drink 2027-2057. It is less obvious than No. 26, but it has a lot of delicate almond and tertiary nuances hiding underneath. ~98 Jeb Dunnuck

The nose is fresh and alluring, with crisp apple, acacia flower, raw almond, and delicate saline-chalk notes that unfold gently with aeration. Ample, bright acidity lifts pithy citrus and white peach, leading to an intense, chalky finish. This Champagne offers so many intricate layers that require slow savoring. Cellaring through 2045 will surely prove rewarding. ~97 Wine Enthusiast

The NV Grande Cuvée Grand Siècle No. 27 is a gorgeous, complex wine. Pear, dried flowers, chamomile, mint, sage and ginger are all wonderfully dynamic in the glass. Floral and savory notes build with a bit of time in the glass. The No. 27 is a wonderfully complex Grand Siècle that can be enjoyed on release. The blend is 65% 2015, 25% 2013 and 10% 2012. There's a touch of vintage 2015 savoriness, but those notes add character rather than overpowering the wine. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged: May 2025. ~96 Vinous Media

With hot, dry 2015 the backbone of this edition (with fresher 2013 and 2012 in support), it's no surprise that this edition of Grand Siècle is a relatively forward, open one at first. It shows yellow plum, bittersweet orange citrus, creamy nougat and a beautifully deep, ember-smoky vein of ageing complexity and candied-fruit richness lurking through its glossy, silky texture. The style remains true to the cuvée in its polish and fluency, although a little more grip and structure from 2015 marks this edition out as a relatively substantial one. With the elongating, freshening power of 2013 and 2012 in the blend, it's a fine argument for Grand Siècle's tri-vintage composition. ~95 Decanter
