About The Wine

Most Americans met Lambrusco in the 1970s, in a sweet fizzy bottle that lived in the fridge door next to the ketchup. Forget that wine. This is the other one — the one they drink in Emilia.

The Lini family has been making it in Correggio since 1910. Four generations. When sweet Lambrusco took off in the U.S. and made a lot of producers rich, the Linis stayed dry. Fabio Lini still works the long way: a still Lambrusco first, a second fermentation in pressurized tank, then time resting on the lees before anything gets bottled. That patience is the whole difference between grape soda and a wine you'd actually put on a dinner table.

Labrusca is 85% Lambrusco Salamino for structure and lift, with 15% Ancellotta blended in for color and weight. It pours nearly purple. Dark berry fruit, a savory herbal edge, and real plum-skin grip underneath the bubbles. Twelve percent alcohol, so a bottle over dinner doesn't end the night.

Get it properly cold and put it next to salami, pizza, pork, or anything off the grill. Fat and salt are what it's built for — that's my read, and it's why a bottle lives in my fridge year-round.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

The deepest color of purple you could imagine, this wine is loaded with aromas of blackberry pie, spiced plums, violet candy and bay leaf. Supertasty and requiring some restraint, the palate is like biting into the juiciest plum you can conjure yet is balanced with notes of dried leaves, wild herbs and roasted coffee, making this joyous and very drinkable wine more complex than you might think. ~92 Wine Enthusiast
