About the Wine

Husband and Wife team Sandra Barenghi and Roberto Moretti bought this 60 acre estate in 1990. They only produce Sangiovese Grosso. They also produce some high quality extra virgin olive oil.

The name Querce Bettina comes from a local legend dating back to the late 19th Century telling of a kind old lady who sat under an imposing oak tree (Querce) spinning wool and telling eccentric stories of witches and wizards to young shepherds that passed by.

The lady’s name was Bettina, she was elusive and nobody knew where she lived or came from; she just used to appear and disappear at will leaving a wake of mystery behind her.

Everybody used to say they had met Bettina at least once, but if asked where exactly, they would say ‘oh, you know, near Querce Bettina’.

Aging: 30-36 months in Slavonian casks.

Tasting Notes: Deep ruby to garnet-red in color. In the mouth, pleasantly dry, warm, full and persistent with consistent tannins. This wine has benefited from additional aging, during which time it has become more soft and rounded. Unfiltered, so may produce a slight sediment.

Reviews

This Brunello shows beautiful aromas of raspberries, white chocolate and ginger. Medium body, juicy and round tannins and a deep finish. A riper style. Drink or hold. ~92JS
