About the Wine
Tasting notes:
The nose is classic Napa Valley, filled with juicy blackberries, rich cocoa, and cassis. After a few moments, dried cherry and a touch of tobacco come into focus along with some wispy notes of fresh violets.
The palate has a density and concentration that is interwoven among layers of fresh raspberry, mint, and hazelnut. The wine slowly transitions to a subtle richness of molasses that’s almost chewy enough to sink your teeth into,
The finish is seamless and complementary to the palate with strawberry jam, Earl Grey tea, and bright, refreshing acidity that should pair equally well with light fare or hardy cuisine.
Varietal: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 1% Cab Franc
Aging: 16 months in French and Eastern European Oak (26% new)
Reviews
Montelena's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeous. Pliant and supple, the 2015 offers notable density and raciness in an up-front style that will drink well upon release. Succulent red/purplish fruit, spice, new leather and licorice are front and center. A wine of total allure, the 2015 hits all the right spots. Best of all, at $62 a bottle it is one of the best values readers will find in Napa Valley Cabernet. Don't miss it. ~92VM
