Gary Figgins represents a true pioneer in the history of the American wine industry. Leonetti was the first bonded winery in Walla Walla and remains the standard bearer. Gary's son Chris now leads the family business in managing their esteemed estate vineyards which includes the well-regarded Seven Hills.
The wine is nearly black in the glass. Intricate nose of licorice, lavender, dried herb, cold black coffee mixed with caramel, black fruits, and elderberry. Incredible purity of fruit. Massive, but plush, with a core of mouthwatering acidity and a polished finish. The wine is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc. It spent 22 months in French oak, with about two-thirds of it new.
Reviews
The blackcurrant and blueberry aromas are impressive with hints of mint. Full-bodied, yet tight and composed with plenty of tight, ripe tannins and a flavorful finish. So beautiful to taste now but will pay big dividends in four or five years. Try in 2022. ~ 97 pts, James Suckling
