About the Wine
The 2015 reveals the natural intensity and remarkable concentration of Verzy Pinot Noirs from a spectacularly continental vintage. » — Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Cellar Master
Louis Roederer, a family-owned Champagne house since 1776, has built its legacy on exceptional quality and a vineyard-first philosophy.
After inheriting the estate in 1833, Louis Roederer expanded the domaine by acquiring some of Champagne’s finest Grand Cru vineyards—most importantly in Verzy and Chouilly—ensuring complete control over the character and precision of the wines. This forward-thinking approach is what ultimately elevated the house to legendary status.
This vintage Champagne captures the purest expression of Pinot Noir from Roederer’s “La Montagne” estate, centered around the historic Verzy parcels first purchased by the house in the 19th century.
These cool, northeast-facing slopes bring tension, chalky minerality, and vibrant freshness, especially valuable in a warm year like 2015. The champagne is a true snapshot of a terroir shaped by slow maturation—its identity driven by structure, energy, and the unmistakable character of Pinot Noir grown on cold, chalky soils.
Tasting Notes
Blend: 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay
Deep yellow-gold with lively bubbles, this vintage opens with vibrant Pinot Noir notes of redcurrant, mirabelle plum, and wild peach. With air, it evolves into dried fruit, smoky spice, and subtle white pepper.
The palate is powerful yet fresh—fleshy, concentrated, and elegantly structured—moving from bright fruit to cocoa, toasted nuances, and a long, saline finish that’s both generous and refined.
Critic Review
A great 2015 vintage champagne! Super-elegant synthesis of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay character with a dazzling interplay of complex red apple, citrus and delicate floral aromas with racy acidity and chalky minerality, that is animating for mind and body. Unusually graceful finish for the vintage. 70% Pinot Noir from Verzy, the highest point of the Montagne de Reims, that is also very close to the forest. 30% Chardonnay from Chouilly, another rather cool location. ~ 96 James Suckling
In the heat and ripeness of 2015, Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon balanced the concentration of chardonnay from Chouilly with the freshness of pinot noir from the northeast-facing slopes of Verzy. He managed that pinot noir from cold soils and a cool climate by allowing a portion of the lot to undergo malolactic conversion, something he hadn't done in the past. (He has increased this focus in subsequent vintages, reporting that Roederer's 2019 Vintage is 100 percent pinot noir from Verzy, as are 2020 and 2022.) The wine has Roederer's hallmark clarity and grace— fresh, fragrant, compelling in its texture that's all about chalk, heady in its savory richness, seeming to invest its inherent energy in the knitting of all its elements into one dynamic moment of grace. ~ 96 Wine & Spirits
A bright, chalky Champagne, finely balanced and appealing, with a range of nectarine and strawberry fruit flavors, plus notes of almond biscotti, pink grapefruit pith and elderflower. Packs a vivacious mousse that dances a foxtrot on the palate, carrying the flavors on the racy, lingering finish. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Drink now through 2030. ~ 94 Wine Spectator
This is a delicious Champagne with its ripe white fruits and softened texture. It is totally mature, the wine balanced and ready. ~ 94 Wine Enthusiast

THE PRODUCER
Louis Roederer
Louis Roederer, a family-owned Champagne house since 1776, has built its legacy on exceptional quality and meticulous vineyard management. Originally founded as Dubois Père & Fils, the company was renamed in 1833 after Louis Roederer inherited it. Over the years, Louis Roederer’s vision and commitment to excellence elevated the house to legendary status. Rather than relying on outside grape sources, Louis Roederer acquired some of the finest Grand Cru vineyards in Champagne, giving them complete control over the quality of their wines.
With over two centuries of winemaking experience, Louis Roederer continues to lead the Champagne world. The introduction of Cristal in 1876, originally crafted for Tsar Alexander II, marked a defining moment in Champagne history. Cristal became known as the ultimate expression of luxury, a cuvée that continues to be revered by collectors and connoisseurs around the globe. After the Russian Revolution, Cristal was released internationally in 1945, cementing its status as a world-class Champagne
