About the Wine
Domäne Wachau is one of Austria’s most renowned wineries, based in Austria’s most prestigious wine-growing region, the Wachau. Steep terraced vineyards, a cool, marginal climate, and meager primary rock soils define the wines. “Federspiel” stands for dry, medium-bodied, and elegantly balanced wines of the Wachau. The winery is led by Master of Wine Roman Horvath, whose team works closely with growers, and has instituted a vineyard quality assurance program. This sustainable vineyard management program includes measures of quality cultivation and is customized according to specific vineyards and vintage.
Bruck is one of the most interesting single-vineyard sites of the Wachau as it is situated at the very edge of the climatic zone where winegrowing is possible. The vines here thrive through the specific microclimate of the south-facing Bruck-vineyard in the village of Viessling on extremely steep terraced vineyards with primary rock soils. The wines from Bruck are characterized by extremely cool aromas and remarkable elegance.
Tasting Notes: White Wine. 100% Riesling. The wine is a lively yellow with green reflections. The distinctive “Bruck-style” is smoky with a precise structure and complex rich stone fruit aromas and exotic. The palate is balanced and elegant tasting of peach, ripe apricot, and delicious apple. The persistent minerality and racy acidity are well balanced by this wine’s full-body and lasting-finish.
Reviews
A rich hint of Golden Delicious apples appears first, followed by lively notes of ripe but fresh citrus and juicy Mirabelle plums. The palate has the same juiciness of fresh stone fruit, framed by lemon freshness but also lightness and elegance. This is light-bodied, dry, and very fresh, with a lovely edge of grapefruit-peel zestiness. The finish is whistle-clean and long. ~92 Wine Enthusiast
