About The Wine

Most Paso Robles wineries will tell you the land is special. Rob Murray actually bet his livelihood on it. A lifelong agriculturalist who arrived in Paso with more conviction than capital, Murray built Tooth & Nail from the ground up — farming the estate himself, fighting the elements, and refusing to make wine he couldn't be proud of in a region that doesn't give anything away easily. The vineyards are sustainably farmed: hand labor instead of herbicides, deficit irrigation to concentrate the fruit and conserve water, 1% of profits pledged to 1% for the Planet. Director of Winemaking Jeremy Leffert runs the cellar with the same seriousness — clean extraction, honest oak, wines that taste like where they came from.

Stasis is Tooth & Nail's coastal line — a deliberate push away from the Paso Robles estate to the windiest, coolest growing sites on California's Central Coast. The tagline is "the elegance of the elements," and it's earned. These aren't big, warm, easy-drinking California whites. They're site-specific, precisely built, and designed for people who reach for Riesling, Chenin Blanc, or Gamay when everyone else is still talking about Chardonnay. If the Squad Series is Paso at its most accessible, Stasis is Tooth & Nail with the dial turned somewhere more interesting.

Kick On Ranch sits roughly ten miles from the Pacific in the Los Alamos Valley — far enough inland to ripen fully, close enough that cold northwest winds arrive on schedule every afternoon from April through August. The soil is eolian sand: windblown, light, nutrient-poor, free-draining. The vines don't have an easy life here. That's why the wine tastes like it does. Riesling has found one of its best California addresses at Kick On Ranch — dry, mineral, alive in a way that reads more like the Wachau than the Central Coast. At 13%, this is exactly what bone-dry Riesling looks like when the site does the work.

100% Riesling.

Pale straw with a faint golden glint. The nose is lifted and precise — lime zest, green apple, white peach, and a thread of jasmine that carries the coastal character of the site.

There's a saline mineral quality threading through from the first sniff, the kind that comes from sandy soils and daily Pacific wind. The palate is bone-dry, medium-bodied, with mouthwatering acidity that defines the variety at its best.

Citrus pith, crushed stone, a hint of ripe pear mid-palate. The finish is long, clean, and mineral — the kind that makes you want the next sip before you've finished the one in your mouth.

For those who think they don't like Riesling: you're thinking of a different wine. This is the dry version — no sweetness, no softness, just precision. It ages beautifully and drinks even better now.
