About the Wine

“The Veneto is its own vinous nation; it has the volume and the quality to stand on its own outside the context of Italian wine.” ~ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

Located right in the heart of the magical Valpolicella region, is the old and famous Marchesi Fumanelli winery. Since 1470, the Fumanelli family began their wine story with the plantation of its first vines, which until today, have been focused on the production of Amarone.

Marchesi Fumanelli boasts 28 generations of winegrowing expertise. The Squarano Estate, just eight miles from Verona, is surrounded by stunning cypress and cherry trees. Built between the 16th and 17th centuries, the estate is steeped in history, sitting amidst ancient Roman ruins, including a temple dedicated to the goddess Flora.

Current CEO, Armando Fumanelli, returned to the family estate in 1998 after a global career. His modern touch, including restoring the 15th-century cellars, has elevated the estate's reputation for exceptional Valpolicella wines.

The estate benefits from the protective mountains and the nearby Lake Garda, creating a perfect climate for grape growing. The vines, a mix of 25-30-year-old Pergola and 8-10-year-old Guyot, are lovingly tended. Harvesting is done by hand to ensure the highest quality.

2016 was a great year for this region. Vinous Media blessed this vintage with a 95 point review and said: "The 2016s come across as some of the most classic wines to emerge from the Veneto in some time. The 2016s are balanced, elegant, fresh and with the structure for many years of cellaring, and with time, they will be recognized as modern-day classics."

Aging: 8 to 10 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes

40% Corvina 40% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella. Intense ruby red with violet reflexes, pronounced and characteristic bouquet of mature red fruits with a slightly spicy note. A wine of great structure and elegance. Ideal with red meats and cheeses.
