Marie-Pierre was born between vines and wines. Her father, Claude Manciat was one of a handful of top-flight producers in the Maconnais area, where up until the early 1980s, these family wines were sold in bulk to local negociants but shifting market trends during that period made it possible for a small producer to make a good living bottling his own wine.
From a very young age, Marie-Pierre fell in love with wine, and she started helping her father in the vineyard. It was not long before she realized that wine was her true passion, and she pursued her enological studies. After years of study and experience in the wine industry, in 2002 Marie finally took the reins of the family business, she represents the 5th generation of vignerons in her family.
Marie-Pierre produces top-quality wine that respects both family tradition and the environment. The 50-acre vineyard is managed under sustainable practices and each parcel is hand-harvested. The result is fantastic, rich, and unique wines. Marie says, “I strive to create a harmony between depth, complexity, minerality, and drinkability in all the wines.”
The yields at this Domaine are routinely 20-30 percent lower than what is allowed in each given appellation allowing Marie-Pierre to craft wines that are rich and powerful while remaining focused with an emphasis on the calcaire-rich soils of each terroir. Marie-Pierre’s wines represent absolutely great value and quality.
This delicious Chardonnay was born on an amazing vintage. Wine Spectator blessed this year with a 94-point review, stating these wines are “fleshy with vibrant structure.”
Tasting Notes: 100% Chardonnay. Elegant and soft aroma aromas of almond, peach, and apricot, with white flowers. Very compact and mineral-driven mid-palate with dried apricot and chalk; the finish is persistent and unctuous.
