About the Winery

Rudi Pichler is among the elite growers of the Wachau producing wines of precision, power, and longevity. The cellar is based in the village of Wösendorf where generations of Pichlers have tended vines since 1731. Rudolph Pichler, III took over the winery in 1997 and has since expanded the vineyards and constructed a modern cellar in 2004. Grüner Veltliner and Riesling make up 95% of the production with the remaining 5% shared between Weißburgunder and Roter Veltliner. Rudi Pichler belongs to the prestigious Vinea Wachau and vinifies under the strict parameters of their codex. He was awarded Falstaff’s Vintner of the Year in 2010.

Reviews

Still very youthful, this dry Wachau riesling is a giant of finesse that needs some years to reach its best. However, the concentration and brilliance of this masterpiece are already totally clear. Super long, fine finish that gently whispers stories about wet stones. Drink in 2019. ~97 JS

Musky, bittersweet perfume of gentian and iris accompanied by struck flint and sea breeze cavort with scents of white peach and grapefruit. The silken palate follows suit with luscious but bright fruit allied to inner-mouth florality and laced with mouthwatering salinity. The vibrant, generously juicy finish is superbly transparent to mineral and floral nuances. The upshot is a shimmering sense of lingering, near-kaleidoscopic interaction. ~95VM
