About the Wine

Strengthened by the tradition of an ancient land, lulled by the placid Tuscan wind, this Chianti Classico finds its wise expression in a wine with an intense aroma, slightly spicy and pleasant on the palate. A sustainable label, born from the respect for the exceptional biodiversity of Villa Trasqua through the principles of organic cultivation.

Villa Trasqua is not merely a wine, but an experience that takes root in the heart of Tuscany. Located within the prized Chianti Classico region, Villa Trasqua unites the traditions of this ancient territory with the innovation of a more worldly outlook for more than fifty years.

Following organic methods of production, from the grape-growing to the vinification process, was the challenge posed and won by Hans Hulsbergen who, since 2001, has transformed Villa Trasqua from an ambitious project to an elite winery with a global perspective.

With the arrival of Franco Bernabei, who made the 100pt 2016 Fontodi Flaccianello, Villa Trasqua has thankfully returned to the US with fresh wines and critical praise.

2016 was an iconic year for Chianti. Vinous Media blessed this vintage with a 98-point review, and said it delivered "Truly exceptional wines. Near-perfect conditions. The wines are simply extraordinary, 2016 is a consistently brilliant vintage across the board."

Aging: A minimum of 12 months in large Slavonian oak barrels of 5,000 liters

Tasting Notes

Sangiovese 80%, Merlot 10%, and Cabernet Sauvignon 10%. Lively ruby red color with purple reflections. The nose begins with floral hints of violet and fruity of ripe cherry and raspberry, followed by notes of sweet spices, such as vanilla and licorice. In the mouth, it is fresh with a pleasant tannin which makes it vibrant and dynamic. The flavor on the palate is fruity with aromas of cherry and blood orange. At the closing, it is tasty and pleasant.

Deep ruby in colour. The nose is rich and generous with aromas of ripe wild berries, black summer truffle and fine oak, supported by notes of green tea and rosehip confit. On the palate, tight tannin and fine juiciness nicely envelope the tongue, and there is a delicate savouriness to the wine, despite feeling slightly unbalanced on the finish. ~91 Falstaff
