About the Wine

Haut-Brisson is a small chateau that sits on the highly desirable limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion. With old vines and a well-maintained property, the wines from this estate are gracefully ageing beauties, and this one is ready to go today!

Since 1997 the Chateau has been operated by Vignobles K, owned by Peter Kwok. Peter, born in Vietnam, was for many years a renowned banker and finances expert in China. Peter managed to see his great love for France materialize in form of a 750ml bottle. He believes that with a combination of excellent terroir, the right equipment, the best workers and tons of patience, an exceptional wine can be made.

Vignobles K is a family business established in 2014 and its formed by 7 vineyards located in some of the best Bordeaux appellations: Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Lalande-de-Pomerol, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. Not bad!

The winemaker is a born and raised Basque named Jerome Aguirre. He began his winemaking experience in his homeland and worked with Jean-Claude Berrouet's (former winemaker at Château Petrus and Château Trotanoy).

Tasting Notes: 90% Merlot 10% Cabernet Franc. An intense nose with black fruit and floral aromas of orange blossom. The wood is still present but shows its charming side. In the mouth the attack is fruity on the palate with beautiful hints of strawberry jam. The wine presents a very nice concentration, perfectly controlled, with silky tannins still present at this point but without harshness. A good balance between sweetness and power, the wood is well-integrated. The finish has considerable fruit with a very light minerality.

Reviews

This is such a friendly and enjoyable red with crushed berries and chocolate, as well as walnut aromas and flavors. It’s full and flavorful with a fine-tannined texture. Success. A blend of 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. Drink in 2022, but already a beauty. ~93 James Suckling

Dark fruits, chocolate, new leather, and spice-driven aromas and flavors all emerge from the 2017 Chateau Haut Brisson, which is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, from more gravelly soils, that was raised in 35% new French oak. Nicely balanced, medium to full-bodied, and with a mouthfilling texture, it's a rounded, sexy 2017 that has loads to love. Give bottles a few years and enjoy over the following decade. ~90 Jeb Dunnuck

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Haut-Brisson slips seductively out of the glass with notes of warm plums, mulberries and Black Forest cake plus hints of chocolate box and star anise. Medium-bodied, the palate has bags of juicy black fruit and a plush texture with a refreshing lift to the finish. ~90 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
