2018 Chateau La Tour Blanche 375ml

Here's a Sauternes with a backstory almost nobody at the table will know.

La Tour Blanche is the only classified Bordeaux estate owned outright by the French State — left to the nation by a 19th-century financier who went by "Osiris," on one condition: that a wine school be built on the property. It still stands, training winemakers on the same ground the grand vin comes from.

The estate sits in Bommes, at the center of Sauternes, where the cool Ciron meets the warmer Garonne and wraps the vineyard in autumn fog. That fog is the whole point. It brings the noble rot that shrivels the Sémillon and concentrates everything inside it. The fruit is picked by hand in multiple passes, fermented in barrel, then aged in French oak.

The 2018 is classic La Tour Blanche: honey, candied citrus, ripe apricot and a streak of exotic fruit — but never heavy, because the acidity is always there to cut it. That's the house signature, richness that stays fresh.

Pour it with blue cheese or foie gras, or just a spoon and an hour to yourself. It drinks beautifully now and will evolve for decades if you let it.
