About the Wine

Sauternes is the iconic sweet wine of Bordeaux. This region is a paradise for lovers of sweetness, finesse, and elegant wines. It's not easy to find a good value Sauternes, (wines from this region can fetch up to $1,000 a bottle or more,) but when we do, we're thrilled to share them with you!

Sauternes wines are made primarily from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes that have been naturally affected by noble rot, Botrytis fungus. In this case, it’s a desirable fungus, allowing the perfect growing conditions for sweet wine. The fungus causes small holes in the skin of the grapes, and the grapes dehydrate on the vine, concentrating the sugar in the grapes, they look like raisins at harvest. The result is a wine with deep and complex flavors and aromas.

Jean-Christophe Barbe, owner of Château Laville, brings his expertise from the University of Bordeaux to the art of winemaking. With a focus on the enigmatic 'noble rot', Jean-Christophe meticulously tends to the vineyards, ensuring that only the most botrytized berries find their way into this elixir of elegance.

Across 14 hectares of Sauternes terrain, Château Laville reigns supreme, its vines boasting an average age of 35 years. Jean-Christophe's discerning eye guides the harvest, with multiple passes through the vineyard to select only the noblest of grapes. The result? A blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, nurtured in stainless-steel tanks and matured in oak for 30 months, a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship behind every bottle.

Pair this exquisite nectar with a decadent foie gras terrine or a creamy blue cheese, allowing the interplay of flavors to elevate your dining experience to new heights.

Aging: 30 months in French oak barrels.
