There are few winemakers in the world whose names instill a sense of trust in the product to quite the same extent that Paul Hobbs does. The CrossBarn label is separate from Paul's namesake winery, but focuses on all the same principles. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from top sites throughout the Napa Valley giving you a perfect snapshot of what Napa Cab should be.
Named after the one hundred fifty-year-old ‘cross barn’ located on the Hobbs family farm in upstate New York, Crossbarn honors the values of hard work and integrity instilled in Paul from his childhood. With a commitment to sustainably nurturing the vineyards, while using labor-intensive winemaking techniques, Crossbarn wines offer a pure and youthful expression of fruit blended from diverse vineyards within California’s finest appellations.
The 2018 growing season saw long, steady conditions throughout, with minimal heat spikes or weather events. After abundant winter rains, bud break and flowering occured later than usual but under ideal conditions, and mild summer and fall conditions allowed for the fruit to ripen evenly, producing an abundant crop with beautifully complex aromas and flavors.
Aging: 18 Months in 16% new French Oak Barrels
Tasting Notes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Rich and luxurious, this deep ruby-colored wine displays a lovely purity of fruit, with aromas of blackcurrant and boysenberry leading to notes of blueberry and a touch of dried herbs on the palate. Finely grained tannins and a backbone of graphite balance the plush black fruits, creating a silky mouthfeel with a smooth yet powerful finish.
A juicy, fruity red with plum, blueberry, chocolate, and some hazelnut. It’s medium-to-full-bodied with firm, silky tannins, and a delicious finish. Always balanced and excellent quality. Drink in 2022. ~93 James Suckling
The Napa Valley vineyard sources for the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley were spread all the way from Calistoga to Coombsville. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it delivers bold, seductive scents of Black Forest cake, warm cassis, and ripe black plums with hints of lavender, menthol, and spice cake. The medium to full-bodied palate offers mouth-filling black fruit preserves flavors with a ripe, grainy texture and a long, spicy finish. 13,035 cases were made. ~91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
