The fruit in the Martellotto Chardonnay is from the Spear Vineyard, located a few miles west of the winery in Buellton, off Highway 246 in the Sta. Rita Hills. This area is famous for the best the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes and we are pleased to be sourcing such high quality fruit. Spear Vineyard is farmed organically and located very near Seasmoke, which charges $100-200/btl for their wines!
100% barrel fermented, the wine aged in 100% French oak barrrels for 18 months, with monthly lees stirring. The oak barrels were mainly first and second use, which means there is only a small amount of oak, toast and vanilla flavoring on this wine. Rather, the focus here is a purity of Chardonnay fruit expression. With this release, the wine states on the label "Made from Organically Grown Grapes."
