About the Wine

The Cabernet from Clare Valley (one of Australia's oldest winemaking regions, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges about 65 miles north of Adelaide), is highly regarded around the world.

Wakefield was established in 1969 by Bill Taylor, who after a considerable search, founded a promising 439-acre site by the Wakefield River in the Clare Valley. The family was certain the soil (Terra Rossa) would prove conducive to crafting wines of the highest quality. The contrast of warm days and cool nights in the Clare Valley would be equally beneficial – helping the grapes ripen in the day and allowing the vines to rest at night.

Today, this recognized Australian estate is tan by the 3rd generation of the Taylor family. Wakefield’s goal is to be Australia’s top wine company, applying best practice principles in environmental management to enhance sustainable business activities and products. Favoring the use of the most innovative techniques available, the winery strives to improve energy efficiency, water conservation, and packaging.

Promised Land honors its name to tiny fossilized seahorses that were discovered the day the family dug their first vineyard dam, "a discovery that showed the promise of the land and its fertile soils." Today, these seahorses are featured on the Promised Land labels as a symbol of quality.

Aging: Few months in French oak barrels

Tasting Notes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. A balanced, medium-bodied wine with a gentle palate of juicy blackcurrant fruits, along with subtle coffee and savory cedar. The wine has a silky smooth mouthfeel and a lingering finish.
