About The Wine

Valter Scarbolo is a boutique family winery established in 1982 in the village of Lauzacco, in Friuli — Italy's northeastern-most region where Alpine coolness meets Adriatic warmth. Today helmed by third-generation siblings Lara and Mattia, the family farms 30 hectares and produces around 200,000 bottles a year. The emphasis is on patience, precision, and letting the vineyard set the terms.

My Time is a co-fermented white blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Friulano — made only in special vintages when the peak ripeness of all three varieties coalesce perfectly. According to Valter Scarbolo, it's an ode to a slower pace of life and to the art of patiently waiting for just outcomes. The winemaker must choose, every vintage, the most appropriate moment for harvest; after fermentation and elevage in different vessels, the wine rests for all the time it needs. The balance from different grapes becoming wine as one is amongst the most unrepeatable and ethereal experiences the winemaker can share of its terroir and philosophy.

The 2018 is gracefully contoured and elegant. Fragrant overtones of wild sage and orange zest open onto flavors of crunchy white peach and raspberry, biscuit, flint, and spice. Medium-bodied and light on its feet, with a lasting, chalk-tinged finish. Drink now through 2028.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

The 2018 My Time is sweetly seductive, with pretty white flowers and almond paste giving way to baked apples and pears. It’s silky with near-glycerol textures, yet also a contrasting mix of saline-minerals and candied lime that enlivens the experience, just as notes of apricot and inner florals form toward the close. This finishes lightly structured and perfumed, with residual tension tugging at the cheeks offset by a nuanced inner sweetness. The 2018 is a real charmer with a balance of contrasts that never tires. My Time is a fermented blend of 40% Chardonnay, 30% Friulano and 30% Sauvignon that’s refined in 500-liter French oak for one year and then released when the winery deems it ready. The 2018 is the current vintage, and having tasted the 2013 alongside it, it may deserve an even higher score down the road. ~ 92 Vinous Media

Brilliant pale golden yellow with hints of light green. Subtle aromas opening with notes of banana, fresh apple and peach. On the palate, well integrated flavours of green apple and grapefruit with a slight hint of wood on the finish. ~ 91 Falstaff

A sleek, fresh white, with fragrant overtones of wild sage and orange zest, plus flavors of crunchy white peach and raspberry, biscuit, flint and spice. Medium-bodied and light on its feet, with a lasting, chalk-tinged finish. Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Friulano. Drink now through 2028. 550 cases made, 100 cases imported. ~ 91 Wine Spectator
