About the Wine

Chateau Clos Marsalette is located in the prestigious Pessac-Leognan appellation. With a legacy that dates back to the 18th century, Chateau Clos Marsalette embodies the perfect blend of tradition and modernity.

At the helm of Chateau Clos Marsalette is the charismatic Count Stephan von Neipperg, a figure larger than life who has enchanted the Bordeaux wine scene. Renowned for his smooth personality, quick wit, and innovative approach, von Neipperg has breathed new life into several estates, including Canon-La Gaffelière and Clos de l'Oratoire. Stephan is well-known for all his Bordeaux properties in St. Emilion. This includes Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere and La Mondotte. His modern winemaking techniques have seamlessly integrated with traditional viticulture practices.

Chateau Clos Marsalette's vineyard spans 30.3 acres, featuring a unique terroir of gravel, clay, and limestone soils. These elements come together to create an ideal environment for cultivating the harmonious blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.

Committed to sustainability, Chateau Clos Marsalette employs organic farming techniques, refraining from the use of insecticides and herbicides. The vineyard is planted at a high density, ranging from 5,500 to 9,000 vines per hectare, ensuring the highest quality grapes. The dedication to organic and sustainable viticulture enhances the purity and expression of the wine

The 2019 Chateau Clos Marsalette is a beautifully crafted wine that showcases the elegance and depth of Pessac-Leognan.

Reviews

I loved the 2019 Clos Marsalette, which has a ripe, sexy, medium to full-bodied style as well as classic Graves-like aromas and flavors of blackcurrants, tobacco leaf, damp earth, and chocolate. It certainly has an herbal edge, yet the fruit is pure and sweet (not residual sugar), it has ripe tannins, a layered mouthfeel, and a great finish. Count me as a fan. Drink this puppy any time over the coming two decades. ~93+ Jeb Dunnuck

Features the lush cassis, mulled plum and boysenberry compote profile of the vintage, along with a fresh mineral streak as well as juniper and savory hints that give it some distinction. Alluring but on the languid side, which is the theme for Pessac in 2019. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2033. 2,600 cases made, 200 cases imported. ~93 Wine Spectator

The 2019 Clos Marsalette is just as impressive from bottle as it was from barrel. Dark, rich and inviting, the 2019 possesses terrific depth and resonance that builds with a bit of time in the glass. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, spice and licorice flesh out in this gorgeous, racy PessacLéognan. The 2019 is impeccable from start to finish. ~93 Vinous Media

Aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries, graphite, iodine, wet earth, tar and black tea. Some green olives and dried herbs. It’s medium-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins. Balanced and fresh. Classically structured. Drink from 2025. ~93 James Suckling
