Sauternes is the iconic sweet wine of Bordeaux. This region is a paradise for lovers of sweetness, finesse, and elegant wines. It's not easy to find a good value Sauternes, (wines from this region can fetch up to $1,000 a bottle or more,) but when we do, we're thrilled to share them with you!
Sauternes wines are made primarily from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes that have been naturally affected by noble rot, Botrytis fungus. In this case, it’s a desirable fungus, allowing the perfect growing conditions for sweet wine. The fungus causes small holes in the skin of the grapes, and the grapes dehydrate on the vine, concentrating the sugar in the grapes, they look like raisins at harvest. The result is a wine with deep and complex flavors and aromas.
Just to give you an idea of the epic terroir and location of Chateau Voigny, only 3.7 miles from this Château, you'll find the world’s most recognized sweet wine producer in the world, Château d’Yquem.
Vignobles Bon - Château Voigny is a family-owned winery that was born in 1948. Today, the estate is run by the 3rd generation of the Bon family, Emilie Garnaud Bon, who's also the mastermind behind these wines. Born and raised in Bordeaux, she has forged her expertise in some of the most rewarded wineries in Bordeaux, including Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Her enormous respect for the environment, and the transmission of a healthy and sustainable heritage, have led her to achieve an HVE3 certification for sustainable agriculture.
Tasting Notes: Sweet Wine. Complex nose of peaches, vanilla bean, honey, and a hint of lemon curd. Sweet, concentrated, and with nice acidity. Pair with mature cheeses, and mostly all desserts!
