About the Wine

Far Niente is a storied Napa winery. Founded in Oakville, California in 1885, the original winery closed when Prohibition forced its hand. In 1979, Gil and Beth Nickel bought the winery and its adjacent vineyards, restoring it to its former glory and turning it into a benchmark producer of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. It’s now one of the world’s great wine estates.

The grapes for their estate Cabernet come from the finest blocks of the Martin Stelling Vineyard which are married with grapes from Calistoga, Oak Knoll, Diamond Mountain, Stags Leap, St. Helena, and Yountville. It is the cornerstone of Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon. Planted on some of the most beautiful, gravelly loam soil in the Napa Valley, the vineyard uniformly produces wines with supple tannins, bright, forward fruit, and beautiful tannin structure.

It’s deeply reflective of the winery’s four decades of crafting Napa Cab. The most iconic Cabernet in the winery’s portfolio, the estate-bottled wine is deeply reflective of the winery’s four decades of crafting Napa Cab. The highest expression of Napa Valley Cabernet, it’s impeccably crafted and forever elegant.

The 2019 Napa vintage, Wine Advocate says, was marked by “good consistency of quality, from bottom to top” and will make “a lot of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon lovers, in particular, happy.” Count this wine among the bottles that will make Napa Cab lovers happy.

Aging: 100% French oak barrels stored in the magnificent Far Niente wine caves.

Tasting Notes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of blue fruits, espresso, dark cherries, and dried herbs give way to silky and seductive flavors of blackberry and cocoa. Beautifully textured with well-integrated tannins and a finish that is smooth and long-lasting.
