About The Wine

Michele Chiarlo built one of Piedmont's most respected houses over seven decades, beginning in 1956. His sons Stefano and Alberto joined in the 1990s, carrying forward a family obsession with quality that started when Michele's father Pietro farmed the hills of Bubbio in 1898. This is a house that earned its reputation the slow way — vintage by vintage, vineyard by vineyard.

La Court is Chiarlo's flagship Nizza, sourced from the Vigna Villalta vineyard. Nizza sits in the heart of the Barbera heartland, where the grape develops depth, structure, and age-worthiness that rival Barolo. This is Barbera at its most serious — old-vine fruit, extended aging, the kind of wine that makes you rethink what the grape can do.

The 2019 vintage delivered ruby red with purple hues. Black fruits, black cherry, rhubarb, and chocolate. Velvety texture with a long, silky finish. The wine shows the richness Barbera is known for, then pivots to elegance — the hallmark of great Nizza from a family that's been farming these hills for over a century.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

“La Court” is a stunner of a Barbera! The nose is full of dark black fruits, sweet baking spices, mint and dried herbs. The wine's structure is beautiful with fine tannins and vibrant acidity around a core of dark cherries and blackberries. This is a Barbera for your cellar (2025–2032). ~ 94 Wine Enthusiast
