About the Wine

Sling & Spear doesn’t settle for anything less than extraordinary. Born from the acclaimed 2019 vintage, the estate sources its grapes from some of Napa Valley’s most prestigious sites—think Rutherford, Yountville, Oakville, and St. Helena.

The grape is sourced from three of the finest and most expensive Cabernet Sauvignon clones in Napa Valley: 337, 4, and 6—the same as those planted at the iconic To Kalon vineyard. These clones are responsible for some of Napa’s most sought-after wines, and Sling & Spear harnesses that greatness, delivering top-tier quality without the eye-watering price.

Winemaker Tom Hinde is a renowned wine industry expert with over three decades of experience in vineyard cultivation, winery management, and artisan winemaking. He has held prestigious roles, including President and Director of Winemaking at Flowers Vineyard and Winery, and General Manager at Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates, where he contributed to the success of Lokoya, Cardinale, Stonestreet Winery, and Vérité Estate. He's the mastermind behind this wine.

2019 was a fabulous year for Napa Valley. Wine Spectator awarded this year a 97-point score, and Vinous Media gave it 96 points saying that "The 2019 Napa Valley Cabernets have turned out beautifully. 2019 is a very high-quality vintage of Cabernets that will be easy to drink and enjoy with minimal cellaring. The extra kick of late heat softened the tannins, making the wines a pleasure to taste and drink."

Critical Reviews

This 2019 Napa Cabernet is sourced from premium vineyard sites in Oakville, Rutherford, Howell Mountain, and St. Helena. From the glass it reveals rich blackberry and cassis notes wrapped in tobacco leaves, with layers of pressed violets, loamy earth, and mocha. Lush blackcurrant fruit is balanced by firm tannins, leading to a lingering finish with hints of graphite and spiced plum. The winemaker for Sling & Spear, Tom Hinde, brings extensive Napa Valley experience, having previously worked with renowned brands like Cardinale, Vérité, and Lokoya. ~94 Decanter
