      About the Wine

There’s a 5th Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac that deserves your attention: 2020 Château Pédesclaux. This wine isn’t just good—it’s outstanding. It has the power and structure Pauillac is famous for, but with a fresh, elegant touch that makes it truly special.

Château Pédesclaux has come a long way. Founded in 1810 by Pierre Urbain Pédesclaux, a Bordeaux wine expert, it quickly earned a spot in the prestigious 1855 Grand Cru Classé ranking. Over the years, the estate changed hands several times, but in 2009, Jacky and Françoise Lorenzetti took over and completely transformed it. They modernized everything—new technology, organic farming (certified in 2022), and a winemaking team led by top experts from Château d’Issan and Château Lilian Ladouys. The results? A new era of greatness for Pédesclaux.

Location matters in Bordeaux, and Pédesclaux is in prime real estate. Its vineyards sit right next to legendary estates like Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Pontet-Canet. With 19 different soil types spread across its land, Pédesclaux has an incredible variety of terroirs that add layers of complexity to the wine.

2020 Château Pédesclaux is a rising star. It’s got history, top-quality vineyards, and a winemaking team dedicated to making each vintage better than the last. Whether you enjoy it now or let it age, this is a bottle that will impress. Don’t wait too long—this wine is only getting more popular.

2020 was a great year for Bordeaux. Vinous Media blessed this year with a 97-point review and said, "Two thousand-twenty is an exceptional vintage for Bordeaux, certainly the best in the 2018-2020 trilogy. Quality is very, very high."

      Tasting Notes

56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and the est of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This wine is rich and bold, with deep flavors of dark berries, spice, and a hint of oak. But it’s also smooth and balanced, making it easy to enjoy now or age for years. It’s the best of both worlds.

      Critic Review

A crunchy and fresh 2020 with sliced oranges and redcurrants as well as cedar and nutmeg. Full-bodied with very firm and tight tannins. Bright finish. Crushed stone at the end as well. Needs three to five years to soften. First year with organic farming. ~95 James Suckling

The 2020 Château Pédesclaux reminds me of the 2016 with its concentrated, pure, classic Pauillac style. A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it has a great nose of pure blue fruits (currants, cassis) as well as ample lead pencil, chalky minerality, and violet aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and elegant on the palate, it has the purity and polish to shine even today, yet my money is on it benefiting from 4-6 years of bottle age, and it should evolve gradually over the following 15+ years. ~94 Jeb Dunnuck

Tense and coiled, lovely styling here with bright and vibrant black fruits, a soft hit of creaminess alongside liquorice-laced tannins. Power and brawn, clearly structured and intense, this will age very well just a bit shy and tight right now. Dark chocolate, menthol freshness, plum and rosemary. Excellent tannic grip and I love the sweetness on the palate as well as overall freshness. Something very captivating about this and upscored from a tasting in September. ~94 Decanter

Precise and essential in the glass offering notes of raspberries, currants, wild violets, hyacinth, magnolias and gardenias. There's more in the Mediterranean sensory traces which engage the taster in the secondary scene. Medium bodied, tannins of optimum fine grain and a graceful, sunny finish. Better from 2025. ~94 WinesCritics.com

Dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, delicate rim brightening. Delicate floral nuances of cassis and heart cherries, light tobacco, pleasant spiciness, mineral touch. Medium body, red berry nuances, fresh acidity, fine, integrated tannins, mineral-salty finish, certain ageing potential, lively style. ~93 Falstaff
