About the Wine
Domaine Huet is an out-of-this-world winery. This is the most important Chenin Blanc producer in the world. This estate has won the heart of the major wine critics in the universe, who just can’t stop talking about it. Wine Spectator said, “Domaine Huet is a benchmark Chenin Blanc producer in Vouvray, an appellation in the Touraine district.”Decanter stated that it is “revered for its age-worthy Chenin Blancs,”and Vinous Media declared that “Domaine Huet is, perhaps, Vouvray's most famous name. No matter the site or the sweetness level, there is an ethereal and elegant quality to these wines that defy scientific analysis.”
Domaine Huet was founded more than a century ago,by Victor Huet and his son Gaston. Today, this world-class Domaine is composed of 74 acres located in some of the most outstanding terroirs in the Loire Valley: Haut-Lieu, Mont, and Clos du Bourg.
This family-owned winery was one of the first ones in the region to convert its vineyards into fully biodynamic farmingand got its certification in 1993. This has allowed them to “develop the character of the wines and preserve the authenticity of the terroirs.”
These Chenin experts arethe measuring stick for all other producers in the region. 2020 was the first vintage to be released under winemaker Benjamin Joliveau’s guidance. Benjamin, born and raised in Vouvray, acquired his expertise working hand-in-hand with legendary winemakers Noël Pinguet and Jean-Bernard Berthomé.
Chenin Blanc wines are known for their natural acidity, captivating aromas, and aging capacity. Benjamin has created these stunning wine gems that not only accomplish the criteria above but surpass them. Wine Spectator says “2020 delivered exceptional Vouvray wines that are highlighted by their purity, tension, and energetic vibrancy.”
Tasting Notes: 100% Chenin Blanc. This off-dry wine resonates beautifully in the mouth. Its natural sugar and refreshing acidity blend harmoniously. Aerial and complex, this fruity wine is to be appreciated young, but can reveal itself graciously to the ones who wait.
Pear and pineapple aromas meet fine, floral characters in the 2020 Demi-Sec Le Haut-Lieu. While this wine's edges are rounded, it is refined and elegant. It has a sense of density on the mid-palate, but it's not about weight or richness despite its demi-sec status. The wine has an intensity and a structured core reflecting the naturally low yields here. While there is 20g/L of residual sugar, a sense of freshness and underlying urgency pulls this wine through, leaving an off-dry impression. Unfinished sample. ~95-97 Vinous Media.
The 2020 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Demi-Sec is clear, pure, subtle, deep, and fresh, with highly refined chalky/sandy lemon aromas. Rich and intense yet silky textured and refined on the concentrated palate, this is a juicy, highly elegant, perfectly balanced, persistently salty and mouth-salivating Haut-Lieu with very fine tannins and a long, firm and pretty powerful but elegant and complex finish. Still more stringent than the Le Mont Demi-Sec in the beginning, but after aeration, this is not just a greatly finessed Chenin but one of the finest Haut-Lieu's I have tasted from Huet. ~95-96 Robert Parker.
This broad, striking white is elegant and rich with complexity, featuring green melon, yellow fig, ginger and verbena notes, underscored with heather, stone, flint and spice details. Offers great energy and tension, showcasing expert craftsmanship. Drink now through 2036. ~96 Wine Spectator.
